Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd reports that Happy New Year, the latest film from global superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has earned a record-breaking $10.5 million on its opening day. That's the highest opening-day tally the Indian box office has ever seen.

Happy New Year is currently playing in North America as well. The film is expected to pass Bang Bang as the highest grossing Indian film to play in North America this year.
